Anna Jewsbury is the woman who put gold scrunchies in all the chicest ears last summer – everyone from Adwoa Aboah to Jodie Comer fell for Completedworks’s £350 gold vermeil Scrunch studs. The design was typical of her cult brand’s pieces: simultaneously distinctive and understated with a sustainable streak – and pleasingly accessibly priced given her A-list fan base. Now, in news that will be music to the ears of stylish brides-to-be everywhere, Completedworks has branched into bridal.

The brand is already a popular choice for fashion insiders on their big day (British Vogue’s own Julia Brenard and her husband exchanged Completedworks rings, and gave their bridesmaids its initial necklaces as thank you gifts). “Sometimes we only find out via Instagram when they tag us in their wedding photos,” says Jewsbury, who was inspired by our changing circumstances over the past two years to cater to the bridal market in a more intentional way.

“It was important to us that the pieces weren’t too fussy,” Jewsbury says.

“Off the back of the pandemic, the idea of being able to celebrate communally again feels really powerful,” she tells British Vogue. “So it felt like the right time to create a collection that really had the idea of connectivity at its core.” Modern Bride is the result: 13 pieces crafted from 14 carat gold-plated recycled silver in collaboration with Matchesfashion. The small edit includes nods to bridal tradition – creamy white pearls, and blue zirconia stones to serve as “something blue” – but is characteristically contemporary: there’s an ear cuff and an anklet in addition to the bracelets and necklaces, as well as a white version of that signature Scrunch.

“The challenge we set ourselves was to reinvent and reform the traditional rules of bridal dressing,” Jewsbury says. “We wanted to make pieces that played with classic styles, taking them off-centre and adding in deliberate juxtapositions with the ultimate aim of creating new classics.” Mission very much accomplished – and with pieces brides will want to keep wearing long after the gown has been stored away. “It was important to us that the pieces weren’t too fussy,” she agrees. “That they’d look equally good with a white T-shirt and flared jeans.”

Naturally, Jewsbury herself was a Completedworks bride. “My husband proposed with a coupon for a Completedworks engagement ring,” she says. “I think it was the longest commission I’ve ever worked on!” Her something borrowed on the day was a pair of pearl and diamond earrings that belonged to her mum, who – along with Julia Roberts in Comme des Garçons at her 1993 wedding to country singer Lyle Lovett – is Jewsbury’s ultimate bridal icon. “My mother wore a brown silk dress to her wedding in the ’80s. She always dressed exactly how she wanted – she could never be dictated to.”
